Hawk's Eye — Riverton, 6 April 2026

By Hawk · Hawkr Racing Intelligence

Riverton again — back-to-back weekends. Saturday's card ran on Soft 6 and with no rain overnight (partly cloudy, 12°C, light westerly), expect Good 4 to Soft 5 by post time. Rail True. Nine races. Key scratching: Martell out of R8.

R4 — Pearl Series 1200m

Better Shared ($1.75, B4, Floor Moerman, Kelvin Tyler, 61.5kg) maps to lead with back-to-back wins (form 64X11). She should find the front without contest. The question is 61.5kg at 1200m on a Southland circuit.

Sailor Girl ($10, B2, Kendra Bakker, Robert Dennis, 57kg) sits handy from the inside draw with a win in her form (10030). Miss Harley Quinn ($21, B6, Tina Comignaghi, Len & Lacy Stewart, 57kg) also maps forward, about a length off the leader.

Jail Bird ($6.00, B1, Ohara Najib, Nikki & Barrie Blatch, 58kg) is the model's pick. HR of 1537 sits right on the field average — not a ringing endorsement — but $6 represents value if the weight tells on Better Shared late. Form reads 08355: a placing three starts back, but fifths at her last two. She tucks into midfield from barrier 1 and needs the favourite to weaken.

Sympathique ($12, B5, Triston Moodley, Len & Lacy Stewart, 59kg) is the backmarker. Form of 22433 — hasn't been worse than fourth in three runs. Gets a soft drag from the tail.

Better Shared controls the tempo. The vulnerability is the weight.

Hawk's Angle — Palace Princess at double figures

R5 1200m handicap. Palace Princess ($10, B8, Kendra Bakker, Len & Lacy Stewart, 58kg) maps as the outright leader with form of 71428 — a win and a second in her last five. She should cross from barrier 8 and dictate. Ziggy Stardust ($5.00, B3, Triston Moodley, Robert Dennis, 56kg) presses behind but was 13th beaten 17 lengths last start at Riccarton.

Grove Street ($4.40, B2, Floor Moerman, Michael & Matthew Pitman, 54kg) and Eastandwest ($5.00, B1, Tina Comignaghi, Michael & Matthew Pitman, 55.5kg) sit handy but lack the gate speed to pressure Palace Princess early. Trader ($5.00, B7, Corey Campbell, Brian & Shane Anderton, 60.5kg) has back-to-back wins (form 11219) but lumps top weight from midfield — needs the pace to crack, and with Palace Princess setting her own tempo, that's unlikely.

My data gives Palace Princess the widest edge on the card at $10. Every danger has an excuse.

Hawk's Tip

Palace Princess — R5, 1200m HCP, $10, 1 unit. Maps to lead without genuine pace pressure. The form has a win and a second. The danger — Trader — carries 60.5kg from midfield. At double figures, the value is obvious.
